Wolves transfer news: Wanderers join hunt for Manu Kone

Wolves have reportedly joined the race for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone.

According to the Daily Mail, the French youngster is attracting a lot of attention this summer, having emerged as one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga.

In recent days, he has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

But now, Wolves and also Aston Villa are being credited with an interest.

Kone has been with Gladbach since 2021, joining from Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse.

He has clocked up 60 appearances for the German side to date.

Wolves now in the hunt for Manu Kone, but competition is strong

The Daily Mail say that Wolves and Aston Villa have both now joined the race for Kone, 22.

But both have work to do if they want to beat Liverpool to the midfielder.

The Reds are crying out for midfield reinforcements, and are also being linked with Khephren Thuram.

But Wolves will possibly be needing midfield reinforcements of their own. Joao Moutinho is leaving, and Ruben Neves is likely to follow his compatriot out the exit door.

Wolves are surely not going to sign Manu Kone this summer given valuation

There is no mention whatsoever of Wolves’ financial problems at the moment, which instantly means this report should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Kone has apparently been valued at around £35 million, which is just not doable for Wolves at the moment.

It has been reported the club are looking to sign players in the £10-20 million range this summer.

Player sales are required to balance the books, and then any additions will likely be for smaller sums than last summer.

One wonders why Wolves would want to sign Kone anyway.

According to the official Bundesliga website, Kone made the most fouls of the whole Gladbach squad (51). He also picked up 12 bookings, which was the most of any player in the whole league. That was as many as Ruben Neves – a yellow card magnet – got for Wolves in the Premier League in 2022/23.

Kone drew 73 fouls himself which was second only to Jonas Hector of Cologne. So he is clearly a very combative player.

Since Wolves already have combative players like Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes, there just doesn’t seem that great of a need.
