Wolves have supposedly shown interest in Lyon star Bruno Guimaraes this month.
According to Goal Brasil, the defensive midfielder has been on the club’s radar, but it doesn’t seem likely anything will happen.
That’s because the player is heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.
There were reports earlier today that the Magpies had seen a bid accepted by the French club.
But Lyon issued a statement claiming an agreement categorically had not been reached.
Plenty of publications are still reporting that a deal is in the pipeline though.
It seems Newcastle are in pole position to land the 24-year-old, who has been tracked by Arsenal.
Wolves also get a surprise mention from Goal Brasil.
In terms of transfer links to midfield players this month, it’s been very quiet so far.
Some are still holding out hope that Renato Sanches could join from Lille, but that particular situation has quietened right down.
It is an interesting claim that Wolves had looked at Guimaraes this month.
Sky Sports have reported Newcastle have agreed a £30 million fee for his transfer. That would be quite a lot of money for Wolves to pay.
Were Wolves worried about losing Ruben Neves as Bruno Guimaraes claim emerges?
It is a surprise to read that Wolves have shown an interest in Guimaraes.
He is a defensive-minded midfielder, which is not really what Wolves need.
One wonders if Wolves have been concerned about potentially losing Ruben Neves who, like Guimaraes, plays deeper in midfield.
It doesn’t feel like Neves is going yo be going anywhere at this stage in the window. Although there have been some fresh links to Arsenal.
But Guimaraes looks bound for Newcastle. Hopefully that means Wolves don’t have cause for concern about Neves.
