Wolves last night reportedly made a move for Goncalo Guedes, after losing their first Premier League game of 2022/23.
The club were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United at Elland Road.
After getting off to a perfect start through Daniel Podence, Leeds equalised through Rodrigo, before a second-half Rayan Ait-Nouri own goal handed the hosts all three points.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Wanderers supporters, with this a great opportunity to start the new season the right way.
Unfortunately the absence of Raul Jimenez proved significant, and after the game Bruno Lage again called for new faces.
And it appears club officials may well have been getting to work.
According to journalist Hector Gomez of Gols Media, Wolves have now made an offer for Valencia striker Guedes, said to be worth €30 million plus another €5 million in potential bonuses (£29.5 million in total). And the offer has apparently been accepted by Valencia owner Peter Lim.
Sportitalia journalist Gianluigi Longari added that Guedes has almost agreed personal terms with Wolves. He also says that Newcastle United are in talks with Valencia.
Interestingly, Guedes was left out of Valencia’s matchday squad against Atalanta last night, before the speculation really began to pick up.
And Fabrizio Romano then quoted Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso as saying of the Portugal international: “The club told me they’ve received a huge proposal for Guedes from a Premier League club.”
Wolves seemingly respond after Leeds defeat as exciting Goncalo Guedes offer claim emerges
After losing the opener to Leeds, it was vital for Wolves to make tracks on signing a new forward.
Hopefully, there is some truth in these new claims about Guedes, 25, that emerged late last night.
There is major frustration and concern within the fanbase at the moment.
Today’s result, combined with the bench Lage named, has only increased the level of worry.
But the club moving to sign Guedes in the coming days would certainly go some way to improving the mood.
