Wolves transfer news: Wanderers facing Lyon competition again as they eye Geoffrey Kondogbia

Wolves reportedly face competition for Geoffrey Kondogbia from French giants Lyon.

According to RMC Sport, Lyon are looking to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer and the Atletico Madrid star is on their radar.

Kondogbia was last week linked with Wolves, who have had the player on their radar for months.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this year that Wanderers did make an approach for the star in January.

A deal didn’t materialise in the last window.

But Wolves could come calling this summer as they seek bargain deals amid concerns about FFP. It has been suggested Kondogbia would only cost around £4.3 million.

Wolves facing competition from Lyon for Geoffrey Kondogbia, just as they did for Joao Gomes

RMC Sport are reporting that Kondogbia is now a target for Lyon.

He has lost prominence in recent times for Atleti, and Diego Simeone is ready to offload him this summer.

It is stated in the report that Lyon may struggle to sign the Central African Republic international because they cannot offer any form of European football.

That is, of course, the same story with Wolves, who finished 13th in the Premier League in 2022/23.

But Wanderers officials may be hoping they can beat Lyon to another player.

It was well documented in January that Wolves signed Joao Gomes after Lyon had tried to lure the Brazilian.

The club offered more money to Flamengo, and owner John Textor even had talks with Gomes.

But Gomes wanted Wolves from the start, and it was thanks to his defiant stance that Wolves were able to get a deal done.

Wolves can beat Lyon to Kondogbia – and Matheus Cunha could help sell Molineux

Wanderers have a great chance of getting one over on Lyon for a second transfer window in a row.

Kondogbia would be able to earn more money if he came to England.

And it’s possible the 30-year-old would fancy linking back up again with Matheus Cunha, who joined Wolves in January.

Cunha uploaded on Instagram at the weekend, showing himself to be back in his homeland of Brazil.

And Kondogbia actually commented ‘Son’ along with a heart emoji.

Seemingly the pair are good friends and still in touch. So maybe, Cunha would be a good person to sell a move to Molineux to Kondogbia. Who knows, maybe he is even on the case already…
