Wolves transfer news: Wanderers eyeing swoop for Gabigol

Wolves are now set to make a move for Flamengo striker Gabigol.

Journalist German Garcia Grova reports that Wolves’ chief scout Mathew Hobbs is set to travel to Brazil to negotiate a potential deal.

He adds that Wolves actually wanted to sign Gabigol back in January.

But his club deemed him non-transferable at the time.

90min also report on Wolves’ interest in Gabigol, and have said Wanderers are hoping to lure the Brazilian to Molineux.

They say that there is also interest from Fenerbahce, with Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Aston Villa keeping tabs on the situation.

Gabigol – real name Gabriel Barbosa – has been with Flamengo since 2019, joining on an initial loan from Inter Milan.

He’s really got himself back on track after struggling in Italy, scoring 101 goals in 105 games for the club so far. And he has 17 so far this season.

It could be a busy few days for Hobbs, who is reported to have flown to Argentina to try and tie up a deal for River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Supposedly Wolves are ready to pay his release clause, which is around £17 million.

But there have been suggestions the 21-year-old wants to play in the Cope Libertadores.

Gabigol would be an exciting addition for Wolves this summer

Wolves completing a move for Gabigol this summer would be very exciting.

His goalscoring record since moving back to his homeland is highly impressive, and Wolves are obviously in great need of someone who can score regularly.

He may have struggled during his last stint in a top five league. But Gabigol is a more mature player now.

It’s possible he is in a much better place to now flourish in Europe should he move this summer.
