Wolves transfer news: Wanderers eye Reims striker Hugo Ekitike

Wolves are reportedly scouting Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Wanderers are showing interest in the Frenchman, with Bruno Lage having been given the green light to sign a centre-forward.

Goalscoring has been an issue again for Wolves this season.

The club are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League, and have blanked in 15 top-flight matches so far.

According to The Telegraph, Wolves will make Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes a priority in the next window.

But there is also interest in Ekitike, who has enjoyed a real breakout season in Ligue 1.

The youngster has hit 10 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

It is stated that there will be serious competition for the player though.

Ekitike almost made a move to the Premier League back in January. Newcastle United made a £25 million bid for him on deadline day.

Ultimately though, he turned down the move in favour of at least seeing out the season with his boyhood club.

Ekitike has been tipped as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.

Reims’ president Jean-Pierre Caillot recently stated that the player is ‘probably going to leave’ if the right offer comes in (via HITC Sport).

The Telegraph’s claim comes after Wolves were linked with moves for Michy Batshuayi and Ivan Toney.

Hugo Ekitike would be an exciting addition for Wolves

Ekitike is potentially the next big thing in French football.

It is going to be very difficult to bring him to Molineux given the fact he is highly coveted.

It is probably right that Guedes is the priority for Wolves. He is probably a better option in that he is 25 and more experienced, and also he supposedly has a £15 million price tag which is appealing.

And being Portuguese, there is perhaps a good chance he’d fancy the move given the strong contingent already in place at Molineux.

But Ekitike is certainly someone for the club keep in mind.
