Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is reportedly of interest to Southampton.
According to The Sun, the 22-year-old has caught the attention of the Saints after his stunning campaign on loan at Sheffield United.
The youngster scored 13 goals and made 10 assists for the Blades, as they fell just short of promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
The future of Gibbs-White is one of the biggest talking points for Wolves fans this summer.
Many would love to see him become more involved in then first-team. And some think he should now become a regular starter.
It sounds like Lage is ready to hand him a chance. The Athletic recently reported that he has already spoken to the player.
The club are looking to convince him his future lies at Molineux. They have offered him a new contract, despite signing up to a new one just before he left for Sheffield United last year.
But it’s up to the player to decide what’s best for him.
It was recently reported that AC Milan were keen on Gibbs-White.
Now there is word of interest from the Premier League in the form of Southampton, who are willing to pay up to £20 million for the star.
Ralph Hasenhuttl is said to want fresh legs and ideas after his side had a disappointing end to 2021/22.
Gibbs-White could thrive at Southampton, Wolves can’t let it happen
Ultimately, money will talk.
If Southampton bid £20 million and Gibbs-White fancies the move, then the board could well sanction the deal.
But hopefully that doesn’t happen, because that could be a very good move for the player and could end up making Wolves look foolish.
Doing that deal also has the potential to bridge the gap a little between the two clubs, and bring Southampton closer to Wolves.
Really, Lage should give assurances to Gibbs-White – whom Conor Coady branded ‘a fantastic footballer during pre-season last year – and give him regular minutes in 2022/23.
