Wolves transfer news: Rui Patricio set to leave Molineux after Euro 2020

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Rui Patricio is set to leave the club after Euro 2020.

Corriere dello Sport bring an update on the situation, and it looks as though the veteran will indeed bring an end to his spell at Molineux this summer.

It’s claimed by the Italian publication that he and Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka will be the first two signings for new manager Jose Mourinho.

Patricio joined Wolves from Sporting CP in the summer of 2018, for a fee reported to be worth around £16 million (BBC Sport).

The star has been a fantastic servant for the club over the last few years.

His level dipped in 2020/21, but that was the case for most of the team, and he was still decent most of the time.

The development could now see Wolves make tracks over Jose Sa, who is supposedly a potential replacement.

The Olympiacos star is another client of Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency.

It would come as no surprise if the 28-year-old did head for the Black Country.

Big gloves to fill

It certainly looks now like Patricio will be departing.

There will be some fans out there that think Wolves are making the right decision.

But that will only be so if Wolves get someone in of quality.

Patricio has been relatively solid across his three years at the club, and there are big gloves to fill when he goes.
