Wolves transfer news: No bids for Dion Sanderson yet, but interest is high

No official bids have gone in for Wolves defender Dion Sanderson yet, but interest in the youngster is said to be high.

That is according to the Birmingham Mail, who have produced a report about the player’s current situation.

Sanderson has just finished a loan spell with the Blues, in which he impressed.

It was his second spell with the club, having spent the first half of 2021/22 at St. Andrew’s.

Unfortunately for Sanderson, a back injury forced him to miss most of the last could of months of the season. He did play Birmingham’s final league game of the season against Sheffield United.

Despite Sanderson’s lack of football lately, several clubs are now circling the player. It has been reported previously that Wolves would be open to offloading him this summer. And last week it was claimed Birmingham were posed to offer around £2 million.

Birmingham are very keen to have him back. He is apparently at the very top of John Eustace’s wish list. He called him ‘a true leader’ earlier this season. Stoke are also keen.

Express & Star journalist Liam Keen says that there is ‘plenty of interest from Championship sides’ and that Sanderson is ‘likely to move on this summer if a deal can’t be reached’.

Sanderson has only ever made one first-team appearance for Wolves. That came a few seasons ago against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

He has Craig Dawson, Nathan Collins, Max Kilman and Toti Gomes ahead of him right now, and it’s possible the club will look to bring in another centre-half this summer.

Wolves must use the high interest in Dion Sanderson to their advantage

There is an opportunity here for Wolves to make a good bit of money on Sanderson.

It is encouraging that several clubs are looking to sign him.

This means there is potential for a bidding war to break out which is exactly what Wanderers need.

Ultimately he probably won’t sell for a huge amount. But a sale here, along with a few others, could help Wolves in their bid to balance the books this summer.
