Newcastle United will reportedly listen to offers for their club captain Jamaal Lascelles this summer, with Wolves interested in the defender.
The Northern Echo have today claimed Wanderers and also Nottingham Forest harbour a long-term interest in the 29-year-old.
Lascelles has not featured a great deal for Newcastle this season.
He has made just eight appearances across all competitions so far.
In the Premier League, he has made just four appearances, with only one of those a start.
Eddie Howe has found great success in 2022/23 playing with Fabian Schar and Sven Botman at the heart of the defence, with Dan Burn shifting out to left-back.
Howe didn’t want to lose Lascelles last month. But the player is now into the final 18 months of his contract and it appears the club are ready to sell.
Newcastle are likely to strengthen at the back again this summer, so Lascelles would be even more surplus to requirements.
It remains to be seen if Wolves do come in with a bid.
It is stated in the report that the club have scouted the star in the past.
At the moment, Wolves have four centre-backs in Nathan Collins, Max Kilman, Toti Gomes and new signing Craig Dawson.
Yerson Mosquera is out on loan at FC Cincinnati for the rest of the season. But Wolves have said he could remain there beyond the summer.
Jamaal Lascelles would be a great addition to the Wolves dressing room
There are a lot of better central defenders out there than Lascelles.
But he’s someone that could make a really good addition to the dressing room, much like Dawson.
Lascelles has lots of Premier League experience, and has worn the captain’s armband at St. James’ Park since 2016.
The £40,000-a-week star is a leader, and it is always good for a club to have such types in their dressing room.
Despite his limited game time this term, Howe said of Lascelles in November (via nufc.co.uk): “He has been and will be our leader.
“He hasn’t been on the pitch as much as he probably would have liked but his status in the group, everyone looks to him as captain. His work-rate and training standards have been exemplary.”
Potentially, he would make for a really solid rotation option.
