Wolves transfer news: Lopetegui looking at Marcos Acuna very closely

Wolves head coach Julen Lopetegui is said to be looking at Marcos Acuna very closely, ahead of the January transfer window.

Acuna has been linked with Wanderers whilst he’s been at the World Cup with Argentina.

Acuna, who plays his club football with Sevilla, has caught the eye out in Qatar, and is officially now a semi-finalist with his country.

The 31-year-old has shown himself to be a tenacious full-back who is particularly effective going fowards.

He will miss the semi-final against Croatia having picked up a yellow card against the Netherlands. But it would still have been a pretty good tournament from him if he’s played his last game.

Wolves have supposedly been interested in Cunha.

And Lopetegui is apparently looking at his former player ‘very closely’ ahead of the January transfer window.

Last week, Lopetegui admitted that Wolves were working on deals to bring Matheus Cunha and Felipe to Molineux.

The Brazilian pair are currently out of favour at Atletico Madrid and have both been told they can leave.

Supposedly, the Spanish club are seeking to bring in around £43 million for the duo.

Acuna would cost Wolves somewhere in the region on £10 million, although that price was suggested before he started to impress at the World Cup.

He is being looked at very closely by Wolves, and the pursuit is considered ‘active’ (via Givemesport).

It remains to be seen if Wanderers do try to land the South American.

The links to him are certainly intriguing, with Wolves not particularly desperate to strengthen at left-back. Hugo Bueno has been doing really well since coming into the team. And Rayan Ait-Nouri is also a really good prospect.

It looks like Lopetegui has a real interest in Acuna.

And links to him should be welcomed, as the South American has looked a real competitor for Argentina in Qatar.

Wolves could be in for a scrap in the second half of the season, and it is important that there are characters in that dressing room who are ready for one.

Acuna has looked pretty good at the World Cup so far, and he might make for a decent January addition.

He would certainly add some experience to the squad. At the moment, there isn’t much of that in Wolves’ current crpp of defenders.
