Wolves transfer news: Liverpool considering move for Ruben Neves

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar.

According to the Mirror yesterday, the 25-year-old could become an option for the Reds, with the player only having 18 months left on his contract at Molineux.

Wolves are still hopeful of extending the player’s deal.

But there hasn’t been any movement on that recently. And many Wolves fans fear this could be his final season.

That said, with Julen Lopetegui now at the helm, it’s possible Neves could end up staying beyond the summer.

It is understandable that Liverpool would want Neves.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have really struggled this season, and their midfield has been a big focus.

They are currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table, and are seven points off the top four.

Yesterday they lost 3-0 against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, and the need for reinforcements in the engine room is absolutely huge.

Klopp is supposedly a big admirer of Neves.

Neves is the second Wolves player to have been linked with Liverpool this month, after reports surfaced that the Reds were keen on Matheus Nunes.

Supposedly they are eyeing a £44 million summer deal.

Liverpool have a major midfield issue right now. But it’s surely not something Wolves will be looking to help fix.

Wolves are now out of the relegation zone after yesterday’s huge 1-0 win over West Ham United. And keeping Neves will be absolutely paramount to staying out of it come the end of the season.

Neves’ value will end up decreasing. But there is more value in keeping such a brilliant player and an excellent leader.

Wolves have to be sensible. And besides, should things keep on improving as they are under Lopetegui, Neves may even end up actually wanting to extend.

Thankfully for Wolves fans, Lopetegui say suggest recently that Neves will be staying at Wolves beyond January.

He said: “I understand your interest in the transfer window. But our interest is only for the match tomorrow. Ruben Neves is a fantastic player. He is a Wolves player and he is going to continue being a Wolves player.”
