Wolves are still keen on Joao Palhinha, but the player reportedly isn’t keen on a potential move to Molineux.
The Sporting CP midfielder has been on the club’s radar for a long time now.
Palhinha has been with the Portuguese giants since the age of 17, joining their youth academy from Sacavenense.
He has risen to prominence over the past couple of years or so, playing a key role in Sporting’s title triumph last season. He has also made his mark with the Portugal national team, winning 12 caps.
Wolves have admired the defensive midfielder for quite a while, but sadly it does not seem the interest is reciprocated.
According to a report from the Mirror, Palhinha is still wanted by Wolves but he isn’t keen to make a move to Molineux.
That is a real frustration. In the same report it’s claimed Sporting would listen to offers north of £20 million.
He is apparently the subject of interest from Manchester United, who are said to have watched him at least eight times this season.
Ironically, United looking into signing Palhinha might just help Wolves to hang onto Ruben Neves. The Red Devils are thought to have interest in the 24-year-old.
Atletico Madrid also supposedly want Palhinha.
A shame if true – Joao Palhinha would be a great addition for Wolves
This could be something that frustrates Wolves recruitment officials given how long the club have been tracking Palhinha.
If it’s true he doesn’t fancy joining up with a number of his international colleagues, then that’s a real shame for Wolves.
Palhinha is a big midfield presence who provides real grit and steel.
He would potentially make for a fantastic addition.
But it looks as though Wolves might be forced to look elsewhere on the market this summer if they want to strengthen in midfield.
And that is something the club need to be looking at. Neves could potentially depart, and Joao Moutinho stands to leave as a free agent.
