Wolves transfer news: Joao Palhinha close to completing £20 million Wolves move

Wolves are reportedly closing in on Joao Palhinha in a £20 million transfer.

According to The Sun’s Jordan Davies, Wanderers are poised to make their first signing of the summer in the 26-year-old defensive midfielder from Sporting CP.

Wolves have been linked with the star for a long time now.

But it appears he could finally be Molineux-bound.

Apparently the move could be confirmed in the coming days.

Palhinha has been with Sporting since the age of 17, and made his first-team debut for the club in January 2017.

He had a few loan spells when he was younger, but Palhinha has been a key player for Sporting for the last couple of years.

In 2020/21, he helped Sporting to the league title. And in the season just gone, he again played a big part in the club’s finish as runners-up.

Palhinha’s time at the club is seemingly now at an end, with Wolves ready to bring him to Molineux.

It seems Wolves are now close to a deal. And it remains to be seen what this will mean for Ruben Neves, who continues to be linked with an exit from the club.

Palhinha plays the same position as Neves, although is more of an out-and-out defensive midfielder.

It’s possible that his signing will be made because the club are going to be selling the 25-year-old.

Wolves need to get Joao Palhinha deal over the line as soon as possible, as £20 million transfer claim made

This is very encouraging, and Wolves now need to get this deal for Palhinha all tied up.

Many Wolves fans have been left disgruntled following the release of series two of ‘Ask Wolves’. Some have been particularly irked by comments by Jeff Shi, who has suggested Wolves simply can’t spend to get closer to the top clubs in the Premier League.

There is a frustrated mood right now. But the club landing Palhinha will at least be something for the supporters to get excited over.

Ultimately, it could mean that Neves goes. But at least Wolves will have done some business early, and got the ball rolling for change.
