Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that the club intend to trigger their buy option on Adama Traore.
The winger joined the Catalan giants on a deal until the end of the season last week.
The 26-year-old has returned to the place where it all began for him, having failed to agree an extension at Molineux.
His contract with Wolves expires in the summer of 2023.
It had been anticipated that Wolves would sell Traore in January.
There was a fair amount of surprise when reports came though about Traore joining Barca on loan with an option to buy.
Some felt that was a big risk for Wolves to take.
But it seems there is a good chance of Wanderers making the sale this summer, with Laporta speaking about the deal yesterday.
He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “We’ve an option to buy clause included into Adama Traore deal with Wolves and our plan is to trigger that clause.”
Interestingly, Laporta also claimed that Traore has taken a significant pay-cut to make the move.
“It’s on him – he made a great effort [on salary] to play here at Barca,” he added.
Barca buying Traore, as expected, will see Wolves rake in £29 million (Sky Sports).
Encouraging comments from Joan Laporta on Adama Traore as Barca plan to trigger buy option
Obviously things can change. But for now it seems like the intention of Barca is to sign Traore for the buy option that was negotiated.
It would have been better had Wolves negotiated an obligation to buy.
But for one reason or another it’s only an option.
Hopefully Traore can play to a reasonably high standard over in La Liga. He is phenomenal to watch, works extremely hard and deserves success.
