Wolves transfer news: Hwang Hee-chan a potential target for Borussia Monchengladbach

Wolves attacker Hwang Hee-chan is reportedly a target for Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to Sport Bild, the 26-year-old is on their list ahead of the January transfer window, with Marcus Thuram a potential departee.

Thuram is into the final year of his contract with the club. And he is reluctant to sign an extension.

So Gladbach’s hand is being forced, and they need to replace him.

Apparently, they have set an £8.6 million asking price for the France international.

Supposedly, Hwang is on their list of potential replacements. But he is currently second choice for the club, behind Dion Drena Beljo of NK Osijek.

Hwang – who is currently struggling with a hamstring injury – was linked with an exit from Wolves towards the end of the summer window.

Everton and Leeds United were reported to be keen.

But in the end, Hwang stayed put with seemingly no actual offers being made. And it has been a tough start to the season for the former RB Leipzig man.

He’s found minutes hard to come by, and has not scored this campaign.

2022 has been a hard year for Hwang, whose form has been poor for quite a while now. His last goal for Wolves came all the way back in February in a Premier League game against Arsenal.

It remains to be seen if Wanderers will seek to offload him in January, amid interest from Gladbach.

Julen Lopetegui may be taking a close look at him once the World Cup is over.

As things stand, Wolves have to consider offers for Hwang Hee-chan as Borussia Monchengladbach table interest

All the players will get a clean slate under Lopetegui.

But right now, Wolves ought to be considering any offers for Hwang.

His form has been poor for a long time, and he is struggling to have an influence for Wolves in games.

The club committed early to signing him permanently from Leipzig earlier this year. One wonders if there are some regrets about that now at boardroom level.

Hwang, 26, isn’t helped by his lack of minutes. But then, he hasn’t been getting many opportunities because of that poor form. It’s difficult for a case to be made for him to play over Adama Traore or Daniel Podence.

Wolves should see what kind of offers come in for him in January. If the club can recoup the £14 million they spent on signing him, then it might be worth entertaining.
