Wolves tried to buy Guilherme ‘Gui’ Guedes, but the youngster has now agreed to join Spanish side Almeria.
According to Sic Noticias journalist Pedro Sepulveda, the youngster is transferring from Vitoria, with the Portuguese outfit paying £2.5 million, with a further £1.7 million to come via add-ons.
Sepulveda says the player will sign a six-year contract. He also adds he’ll have a £34 million release clause.
Almeria have managed to beat off comeptition from several clubs. As well as Wolves, Fulham and Lille also attempted to sign Gui.
Last month, Zero Zero claimed Wolves were keen on Gui, as well as his Vitoria teammate Andre Almeida, and that there were talks.
Supposedly, a deal for both could have cost between £8.5 million and £12.8 million.
A report from A Bola had suggested that Gui was likely to be sold this summer.
And that has proven to be the case.
The Portugal U20 international will hope to increase his minutes with Almeria next season, having never actually completed 90 minutes for Vitora.
He made just nine first-team appearances for his boyhood club.
Wolves must look elsewhere as another linked player in Gui goes begging
Speculation about Wolves moving for Gui wasn’t particularly heavy like it has been with other transfer targets.
It is unclear, how close Wolves actually came to landing the midfielder.
But the club will now need to move on with the 20-year-old having chosen Almeria.
Hopefully Wolves can secure a move for Enzo Fernandez, who is one of the most highly sought after players in Argentina at the moment.
The club are said to be trying to buy him, but there have been claims he’s keen to play in the Copa Libertadores.
