Wolves transfer news: Goncalo Guedes likely to be offloaded this summer

Goncalo Guedes is reportedly likely to be offloaded by Wolves this summer.

Reports in Portugal surfaced this weekend about the 26-year-old, who is currently on loan at Benfica.

Guedes made the move in January, after enduring a pretty poor few months in England.

The £90,000-a-week star was a regular in Wolves’ starting XI under Bruno Lage. But he started seeing fewer minutes once he got sacked.

Julen Lopetegui handed him a few chances, before he was then sent out on loan. The Spaniard revealed that Guedes wanted to go.

Since moving to Benfica, Guedes has somewhat found his mojo again.

He’s scored two goals in nine games so far and has been fairly lively. But he’s currently out injured an faces a battle to play again before the season is out, after undergoing surgery.

Guedes time at Benfica has led to speculation that the Portuguese club could attempt to buy him this summer. There is no clause for them to exercise, but Benfica could seek to negotiate with Wolves.

According to the Express & Star, it is ‘likely’ that Guedes will leave Molineux.

The club are ‘willing’ to offload him in the summer.

But it is stated that ‘it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese club will make a loan or permanent move’.

Wolves paid an initial £27.5 million to Valencia to sign Guedes last summer.

Wolves should not be opposed to taking a hit on Goncalo Guedes

If Benfica are ready to come in with an offer that’s lower than £27.5 million, then Wolves should definitely be open to taking a hit on Guedes.

It is never good to keep a player who isn’t happy.

So presuming he won’t have a change of heart, then Wolves should work to get him off their books.

It will be frustrating for Wolves officials if they cannot recoup their initial outlay.

But the dressing room can’t play host to unhappy campers.
