Wolves are now facing strong competition from Everton for Matheus Nunes.
According to a report from O Jogo, the Toffees are ready to make a move for the Sporting CP star, having watched him for months.
They are said to have been ‘amazed’ by his development.
It is mentioned how Nunes’ ability to carry the ball and show physical strength is something that Frank Lampard likes.
Apparently Everton see him as a priority target now, and will seek to bring him to Goodison Park.
It is another blow for Wolves fans, many of whom has been left frustrated following new reports about Joao Palhinha.
Wolves remain in the hunt for the 26-year-old, but it is now being widely reported that Fulham are trying to sign him.
They have made a bid, and are seeking to beat Wanderers to their long-term target.
There were claims recently that Wolves could perhaps do a double deal to sign the Sporting pair, which would cost around £55 million.
Seemingly, the club would require a Ruben Neves sale to finance that.
Wolves missing out on Matheus Nunes and Joao Palhinha to Everton and Fulham would be a disaster
Wolves have the chance to completely revitalise their midfield for the first time in years.
Nunes and Palhinha are two brilliant players who have both enjoyed a fantastic couple of years with Sporting.
They are there for the taking, but it is starting to look as though Wanderers could actually lose out on both if they are not careful.
At this point, if the club didn’t get either, and both headed to other Premier League clubs, then Fosun will have a lot to answer for.
Surely, it just makes sense to get them both in now, and then sell Neves – who will not be short of suitors this summer, if needs be.
