Wolves informed Everton Adama Traore is available for around £10 million, but the Toffees are reportedly unlikely to swoop.
According to The Athletic, there has been a shift in policy at Goodison Park.
The club are looking to lure players who are younger and have more room for improvement.
‘Young’ and ‘hungry’ are apparently the buzz words for the Merseysiders this summer, despite the fact they have already signed 29-year-old James Tarkowski, who was considered an exception.
Everton felt him being a free transfer made him worthwhile.
Earlier this week, they were linked with a move for Traore, having also been strongly linked with Morgan Gibbs-White.
Traore, 26, has just one year remaining on his contract at Molineux, and has no intention of extension as things stand.
He’s currently with the squad in Alicante.
Traore spent the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona, but it was a move that didn’t work out at all.
The star spent most of his time there warming the bench. And the club ultimately did not trigger their option to buy, which was thought to be £29 million.
The Spanish giants have now gone and sign Raphinha from Leeds United, and re-signing Ousmane Dembele.
Wolves might be better off just keeping Adama Traore at this point, as report shares Everton’s stance
It will be really interesting to see what Wolves do with Traore this summer.
Arguably, there is now more of an argument for Wolves to just keep hold of the player.
Traore remains a game-changer. Yes his end product is still lacking, but the star always causes problems for defenders.
Wolves may see more value in keeping Traore for one more season before letting him depart for nothing.
It would sting to watch some as unique as him walk away on a free transfer.
But at this point, maybe having him around for one last term would be the best thing. Especially with Chiquinho being injured and if Morgan Gibbs-White is sold.
