Lille’s sporting director Olivier Letang has admitted he’s unsure if Renato Sanches will remain at the club, after previous interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The midfielder played a crucial role in the French side’s surge to the Ligue 1 title in 2020/21.

It has been a season of renaissance, for a player who struggled to make the grade at Bayern Munich.

It was claimed in November 2020 by Calciomercato that Wolves had an interest in Sanches.

It remains to be seen if Sanches will be on the move this summer.

But Letang’s comments suggest there is a reasonable chance.

He told The Athletic: “He’s a more mature player and a more mature man. He has improved his football.

“There are already some clubs interested, because we have had a recent discussion. But everybody needs to be happy for this to happen.

“I do not know if Renato will stay with us or not. Not yet. Let’s see. But as a top, top-profile player, it’s logical that you get some top clubs that are interested in him.”

Sanches would transform Wolves

If there is one more Portuguese player Wolves should be looking to sign, it should be Sanches.

The Wolves midfield currently lacks someone who can go from box-to-box.

Bruno Lage needs someone who can carry the ball and break the lines.

He’s grown up a bit since his awful spell on loan at Swansea City.

It’s probably unlikely he’d come. But Wolves surely have to test the waters.
