Wolves transfer news: Dion Sanderson could be sold for more than £4 million this summer

Wolves defender Dion Sanderson could potentially be sold this summer.

The young centre-back had a somewhat turbulent season in 2021/22.

He started the campaign at Birmingham City where he really impressed and was a regular in the starting XI.

He was then recalled by Wolves in January to cover a centre-back shortage, with Romain Saiss having gone to AFCON with Morocco.

The 22-year-old remained with his parent club until the end of January, but didn’t get any first-team minutes,

Wolves then sent him to QPR for the remainder of the season.

It was tough for him initially, but he did enjoy a decent end to the campaign, playing eight of the last 10 Championship games.

Recently, Sanderson has been linked with a move to Sunderland, the team he spent the 2020/21 season on loan at.

The Black Cats gained promotion to the Championship for 2022/23, and they are looking to strengthen.

The Sunderland Echo have an article on the potential for Sanderson to move to the Stadium of Light this summer.

They asked the Birmingham Mail’s Alex Dicken about Sanderson’s situation, and he said: “Sanderson is an interesting case because (Scott) Sellars rates him highly and Bruno Lage was impressed with him when he returned to Wolves in January, but ultimately he isn’t ready to step into the first team now and Wolves have numerous players ahead of him in his position.

“Wolves are in a comfortable position with Sanderson and would entertain loan and permanent offers, providing the price is right.

“Sanderson has more experience than (Owen) Otasowie and a player of his age could move for £4m-plus in this market.”

Wolves getting over £4 million for Dion Sanderson would be decent business, amid claims he could be sold

Although it could well be that Sanderson heads out on loan again ahead of 2022/23, the club getting over £4 million for him would be decent business.

Ultimately, Sanderson has never made a Premier League appearance. So to receive such an amount would be good going.

Ideally though, if Wolves are going to sell then they should be looking to insert a buy-back or sell-on clause.

Because Sanderson does have good potential, and he could be worth a fair bit more in the coming years.
