Wolves transfer news: Brentford reluctant to pay £25 million asking price for Nathan Collins

Brentford are said to be ‘reluctant’ to pay £25 million to sign Nathan Collins from Wolves.

The central defender remains a target for the Bees, who are looking to bolster their backline for 2023/24.

Collins struggled for game time at Molineux in the second half of last season.

Julen Lopetegui brought in Craig Dawson from West Ham United, which saw Collins drop to the bench.

It has been suggested that the club are ready to sanction his exit, as he is not someone at the forefront of the manager’s plans.

Brentford’s interest was made known last week, and the club have been in talks with Wolves.

But an agreement has yet to be reached.

And now, it seems there is a bit of an impasse.

Brentford ‘reluctant’ to pay £25 million asking price Wolves have set on Nathan Collins

According to The Athletic, Wolves are holding out for £25 million to sell Collins.

That is a figure Brentford are apparently unwilling to go near, despite the player being ‘top of their list’.

The Bees have already seen two bids for Collins rejected.

Should they ultimately pay the £25 million, then Brentford would be smashing their club record for an incoming player, which is currently £22 million for Kevin Schade.

It remains to be seen if Wolves will budge.

After all, there is a need to make player sales this summer due to FFP.

Wolves should hold firm on £25 million asking price for Nathan Collins

Wolves should not come down on their asking price, as Brentford are seemingly hoping they will.

Wolves may be in a position whereby they need to sell, but there are other clubs keen on Collins.

It was reported yesterday that Nottingham Forest and West Ham United were lurking.

So there is potential for one of those clubs to come in for the Republic of Ireland international, who was called ‘a brilliant player’ by Conor Coady shortly after he signed for Wolves from Burnley.

Brentford aren’t even far away from the asking price and so Wolves should stand firm with the price that they have set. It is a more than fair valuation.
