Wolves transfer news: Botafogo closing in on swoop for Marcal

Fernando Marcal is now close to sealing a switch to Botafogo, with his contract at Wolves almost up.

The defender is leaving Molineux after two seasons, and he has been linked with a move back to his homeland for a couple of months now.

The star, 33, is ready for a new chapter, and is expected to complete a move to the club in the next couple of weeks.

Globo Esporte had published a report that terms had been agreed.

They published quotes from Marcal’s lawyer, who said: “The news was not supposed to leak, but everyone already knew of the interest of both parties in this business. We have reached an agreement and the athlete has already signed the contract with Botafogo.

“The club was super professional in the business from the first talks to the signing, valuing the athlete who had an excellent year in the Premier League. Fernando has even said goodbye to his Wolverhampton teammates. Now is waiting for the official announcement of Botafogo.”

But on Monday night, the club issued a press release playing down comments from lawyer Daniel Petrocelli.

It read (via Terra): “Contrary to what was reported in a report published on “ge.globo” on Monday (30), Botafogo clarifies that does not recognize and has no relationship with the lawyer Daniel Petrocelli, who gave statements about the negotiations between the Club and the athlete Marçal.

“Botafogo disauthorises the said lawyer to make any mention of the Club and its relations with the market.

“Negotiations with athlete Marçal are ongoing and the Football Department has dealt with the subject directly with the athlete, his representatives and lawyers.”

It is thought that Marcal will pen a two-year deal with the club. And he could have the option of another year after that.

It is not expected that there will be any issues with the move.

Botafogo are simply denying the move is already done.

We know that he is definitely leaving Molineux, with Bruno Lage saying recently (via The Athetic): “He’s a magnificent man, I love working with him. Every time he comes to play he plays well. But there’s a moment when the club and the player doesn’t find an agreement. We need to find a different solution.

“I expect him to leave. For him, that’s the decision, the club doesn’t want to renew with him and also he has a good chance to go back to Brazil.”
