Wolves transfer news: Barcelona officials bemused by Ruben Neves links

Officials at Barcelona are said to be bemused by the transfer links to Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

Pretty much since the last transfer window closed, the Catalan giants have been tipped to land the Portugal international.

Neves was supposedly wanted by Barca in the summer, but the club needed to address other positions first.

Ultimately, Wanderers’ asking price was too high, and the 25-year-old stuck around, much to the surprise of many fans.

Recently there have been claims that Barcelona could move for Neves in January. Sergio Busquets is struggling at the moment, and Barca want to bring in a long-term replacement now.

It was even claimed that Jorge Mendes had reached a salary agreement for his client.

But Mundo Deportivo are now claiming that technical staff at the Camp Nou have actually found the links to Neves surprising.

That’s because he doesn’t really fit with the profile Xavi supposedly desires.

The manager wants a ‘positional midfielder’ like Busquets.

The report suggests that Neves is more of a good passer with a powerful shot and a good physique.

Supposedly, the man Xavi really wants to replace Busquets with is the Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

An interesting claim from Spain about Barcelona officials’ view of Ruben Neves

The Neves to Barcelona saga has taken another turn.

This is potentially a good thing for Wolves, who are in a world of trouble right now.

The club need to be keeping hold of Neves until the end of the season. Failing to do so will likely result in a relegation battle.

The idea Barca could instead make a move for Zubimendi is encouraging.

Neves would really make a fantastic replacement for Busquets, and is actually quite interesting and surprising to hear officials may not feel he is the correct profile.

But Wolves fans will be very happy if the Spanish giants turn to Zubimendi instead.
