Barcelona are reportedly considering shelving their interest in Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
The Spanish giants have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old maestro since the end of the 2021/22 season.
Supposedly Xavi is a big fan of the Portugal international.
But the club’s financial issues have been well-documented, and Wolves are reported to want around £70 million for their prized asset.
Potentially, Frenkie de Jong being sold might make a move more likely. The Netherlands international is closing in on a move to Manchester United.
But SPORT are now reporting that Barca are considering ‘parking’ his signing for a year.
Seemingly, they are focused on signing other players before him. Robert Lewandowski is one who has been been heavily linked.
Potentially it is a blow for Wolves, who have been inactive in the transfer window so far.
There have been suggestions that the club are waiting to sell Neves before making new additions.
Ruben Neves could be staying at Wolves after all, with Barcelona reportedly ready to shelve their interest
With Manchester United going after de Jong, and this report claiming Barcelona are ready to shelve their interest, it might be that Neves doesn’t actually get sold this summer after all.
Recently, The Athletic did report that it was increasingly possible that both Neves and Joao Moutinho would be staying at Molineux.
Of course, new clubs could well come to the negotiating table for Neves.
But just at the moment, it is looking like the maestro could be sticking around a little longer than expected.
