Wolves transfer news: Atletico seeking £43 million for Cunha and Felipe

Atletico Madrid reportedly want £43 million from Wolves if they are to part ways with both Matheus Cunha and Felipe.

The two clubs have been in negotiations recently about a potential transfer to Molineux for the pair.

Wolves were said to be in contact with Atleti over Cunha first. And then it was claimed that Wanderers were also in talks over Felipe.

New head coach Julen Lopetegui is keen to strengthen the squad in January.

He’s been working with his new players out in Marbella, but knows new faces are required.

So far there hasn’t been much information regarding how much Cunha and Felipe would cost to sign.

But now, The Athletic have reported the Spanish club are seeking to bring in around £43 million for the pair.

That is a package actually proposed by the super-agent Jorge Mendes. He does not represent either player, but has established links to both clubs.

The bulk of that £43 million fee would be down to Cunha, who is only 23 and has a contract until 2026.

Defender Felipe is 33, and his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires next summer.

The Athletic report that it is currently ‘uncertain’ if Wolves will meet Atleti’s demands.

There is mention of Everton, Aston Villa and Leeds United all being keen on the Brazilian.

And Arsenal are also said to be weighing up a move for the player. They have just lost Gabriel Jesus to a knee injury. He’s undergone surgery and could now be out for a few months.

Mikel Arteta needs a replacement and it could be that he turns to Cunha.

Last week, Lopetegui said publicly that Wolves were working on deals for CUnha and Felipe.

Not the best of updates for Wolves fans about Matheus Cunha, as Atletico seek £43 million for him and Felipe

£43 million is a lot of money to pay for these two players.

Cunha may have a long contract, but ultimately he hasn’t lived up to expectation so far in Spain.

And then Felipe is out of contract next summer and his market value shouldn’t be particularly high.

Atleti supposedly need to sell to boost their finances, and it remains to be seen if an offer will be forthcoming from Wanderers.

The fact that several other clubs are interested in Cunha in particular will give Atleti hope that they can bring in the money they want.
