Alfredo Morelos is being released by Rangers, following recent speculation Wolves have interest in the player.
It was suggested that Wanderers were keen on the Colombian, along with several other clubs ahead of the summer window.
He and four other players at Ibrox have been told they are not getting new deals.
And so the club announced publicly yesterday that they would be leaving as free agents at the end of the season.
Also departing are Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.
The Daily Record report that it has been a season to forget for Rangers, with Morelos not looking like that dynamic player he once was.
Rangers boss Michael Beale, who was a managerial target for Wolves before the club landed Julen Lopetegui, said of Morelos (Daily Record): “And for Alfredo, for the outlay and what we got back, he’s had an outstanding contribution to the club. European top goalscorer and was Player of the Year last year before suffering an injury. He’s had a stop-start season this year but their contribution has been huge.”
Wolves have apparently been showing some interest in Morelos.
But TEAMtalk also claimed that Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Burnley and Middlesbrough were all interested too.
It remains to be seen if Wolves will make a swoop.
It has just come to light that Wanderers have some concerns over Financial Fair Play, which has cast doubt on Lopetegui’s future.
It may well be that the club have to turn to the free agent market.
Should they do that, they will find Morelos, 26, following his release by Rangers.
Alfredo Morelos released, but Wolves still should not be tempted to make a move
Even with Morelos about to become a free agent, Wolves should steer clear.
Unfortunately, Morelos hasn’t been in good form but the biggest issue with him is that disciplinary record.
He’s a yellow card magnet, and has also been shown a red card eight times since he arrived in Scotland in 2017.
He may have scored 124 goals in 268 games for Rangers. But Wanderers just don’t need that kind of potential for trouble in their team.
