Wolves transfer news: Alexis Vega tells Guadalajara he wants to leave

Reported Wolves transfer target Alexis Vega has told his club Guadalajara that he wants to leave the club.

The star is expected to depart the club he’s been with since 2019, and make a move to Europe.

Vega has been one of the best players in Mexico for a while now, and the 25-year-old caught the eye at the World Cup for his nation.

Vega has been in good form for his country. And in Qatar he started all three of their group stage matches, with Wolves’ Raul Jimenez only fit enough for a place on the bench.

The attacker has been linked with Wolves recently.

He’s thought to be on Wanderers’ radar, and former Mexican top-flight player Herculez Gomez has said he can see him making the move to Molineux.

Now, El Universal have reported that Vega has informed officials at Guadalajara that it is his intention to leave the club.

He’s ready to embark on a new chapter, and interest in the player is fairly high.

Recently, the player’s father claimed he’s held talks with a few sides in Europe.

El Universal add that Wolves, PSV Eindhoven and Chelsea are all keen on Vega. But no offers have yet come in for him.

Wolves are also being strongly linked with a move for Matheus Cunha of Atletico Madrid. And Julen Lopetegui has actually stated the club are interested in him.

Realistically, Wolves would probably only sign one of Cunha or Vega, given they play very similar positions.

At the moment, it seems as though Cunha is perhaps more likely.

Alexis Vega to Wolves surely only happens if two of Hwang, Adama or Jimenez leave

Vega to Wolves just does not seem all that likely.

As good a player as he is, he isn’t really what Wolves need at this moment in time.

Perhaps the only way he comes is if two forward players leave Molineux next month.

Hwang Hee-chan, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez have all been linked with exits from the club, so if two of those three were to leave then maybe Vega could come in as well as Cunha.

But Wolves need to be signing an out-and-out centre-forward really.

Wolves should be seeking to bring in Vega/Cunha, plus a natural striker in the Jimenez/Diego Costa mould.
