£124k-a-week Wolves target willing to slash wages to leave current club

Wolves striker target Hugo Ekitike is reportedly willing to slash his wages considerably in order to leave Paris Saint-Germain this month.

It has been reported in recent days that Wanderers are one of a few teams currently showing interest in the French centre-forward.

Wolves were said to have made an approach for Ekitike, a player who has only featured for eight minutes this season.

Gary O’Neil’s desire for a new striker has been widely reported and Ekitike is seemingly a player the club do quite like, with Wolves being linked with him while he was at Reims.

It remains to be seen if Wolves can get a deal done this month, but Ekitike certainly seems keen to change his current situation…

Fussball.news have reported today that Ekitike earns around €7.5 million per year, which equates to £124,000-a-week.

That is obviously a huge amount of money that a lot of clubs simply will not be able to afford.

But the publication say that Ekitike is willing to take a cut to his wages in order to get a move away from the Parc des Princes. Apparently, he is willing to ‘give up a lot of money’.

It is the 21-year-old’s focus to achieve regular football again after falling by the wayside at PSG.

When he was at Reims, he was one of the most coveted young players in Europe and currently, he is struggling to live up to his billing because of a lack of opportunity.

Manager Luis Enrique does not count on him, and Ekitike is keen to depart, with PSG equally keen to offload.

If he is not playing, then there will be no chance of the as-yet-uncapped Ekitike making it into France’s Euro 2024 squad this summer.

Wolves face Eintracht Frankfurt battle

It is good news that Ekitike would be willing to take a lower salary in order to leave PSG, but this would still be a hard deal for Wolves to do.

Apparently Eintracht Frankfurt are very keen, and their project appeals to Ekitike. Talks between the club are said to be going well according to fussball.news.

Wolves would probably be able to offer a more appealing financial package to the player, but Ekitike could potentially be too expensive to buy in this window.

Wolves won’t be spending big money this month, so it may be that a loan with option/obligation-to-buy will be the plan, if Ekitike is indeed the man Gary O’Neil wants to bring in.

Wanderers and PSG have a good relationship after the Pablo Sarabia transfer one year ago, so it’s possible the French giants may work with Wolves on that.
