Wolves target has just agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid, £25m transfer mooted

Wolves face one of their biggest summers in years – and it looks like one transfer target could be heading elsewhere.

Wolves are looking to build on the great work Vitor Pereira has done at the club over the last few months, but face some challenges at the moment.

Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia are confirmed outgoings, and Rayan Ait-Nouri will soon join Manchester City.

And it’s all happening at boardroom level too, with Wolves instigating a restructure of their recruitment roles. Matt Hobbs, who was the club’s sporting director, left the club on Wednesday after his role was dissolved.

Fans will hope Wolves now start to make some headway on incomings.

And one player Wolves have recently been linked with again is Johnny Cardoso – but there is bad news this afternoon regarding the American.

Wolves want to add a new midfielder to their squad this summer.

Tommy Doyle has interest from Sunderland and Wrexham and is expected to leave the club at some point in this window.

And there is potential for Boubacar Traore to leave on loan.

Cardoso is a player Wolves have reportedly had an eye on for a while now.

It was even reported earlier this year that Wolves were prepared to triple Cardoso’s wages to lure him to Molineux.

But this move looks unlikely now, with Fabrizio Romano dropping a significant update today.

He said: “Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Johnny Cardoso on personal terms and advancing in talks to get deal done with Real Betis.

“Package deal around €30m with bonuses and also potential players as part of the agreement now being discussed.”

Wolves must start making moves

The summer transfer window has only been open a few days, but Wolves could do with making some moves now.

With Cunha, Sarabia, Ait-Nouri and Hobbs all leaving, and possibly Nelson Semedo to follow soon, it’s time for Wolves to give the fans a reason to be optimistic.

Cardoso looks all set to move to Atleti which is a shame, because he is a great holding midfielder who would have provided fantastic depth.

Hopefully, whoever is currently overseeing transfers and recruitment has an alternative in mind and headway can be made as soon as possible.
