Wolves suffer second transfer blow after Marc Pubill as target close to £22m move elsewhere, talks ‘very advanced’

It has been a rather turbulent week for Wolves in the transfer market.

Earlier this week, fans were left gutted when there was news of Atletico Madrid hijacking Wolves’ move for Marc Pubill.

Wolves had been set to close a deal for Pubill, but in the end they failed to get it done.

Today though, there has been some positivity, with Wolves announcing Jhon Arias as a new signing.

Arias comes in as Wolves’ second addition of the window, after Fer Lopez over a month ago.

But this afternoon, there is potentially more frustration for Wolves after one journalist provided an update on a target the club have been looking at.

With Wolves having sold Rayan Ait-Nouri earlier this summer, the club have been looking at replacements.

Hugo Bueno is an option to be a long-term successor to Ait-Nouri.

But many would love to see a new face come in – preferably someone with a bit of pedigree.

But someone who now looks unlikely to be that player is Samuel Lino, who has reportedly now entered into talks with Flamengo.

Wolves had reportedly enquired about Lino recently, but a significant update has arrived today.

Journalist Matteo Moretto reports on X: “Samuel Lino is in very advanced talks with Flamengo for €25m.

“The player has a five-year contract ready, worth nearly €5 million net per season.”

Wolves must quickly move on from Lino

A lot of people really wanted to see Lino come to Wolves, once it became clear that he is not in the plans of Diego Simeone.

But it appears Wanderers won’t be moving for him – unless there’s a dramatic hijack like Atletico did to Wolves just days ago with Marc Pubill.

That would require ruthlessness though, and fans won’t hold their breath on that.

Especially since Lino appears to be about to transfer for a fairly big fee of just under £22 million.

Wolves must now go back to the drawing board.

It’s been claimed that Jaouen Hadjam of Young Boys could be an option for Wolves.

Hadjam is said to ‘dream’ of replacing Ait-Nouri at Wolves, so perhaps the recruitment team will now head in his direction. Especially as he actually plays quite similar to his compatriot.
