Wolves submit unrefusable transfer offer for player who Pep Guardiola wanted at Man City

Wolves are hoping to welcome more players to Molineux before transfer deadline day at the end of the month.

Gary O’Neil has welcomed three new players to his squad so far this summer, as well as tying Tommy Doyle down permanently following his loan from Manchester City.

After offloading Pedro Neto and Max Kilman, the Wolves boss has confirmed that he and Matt Hobbs will scan the market once more for talent.

There is a lot of work to be done within the squad in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, with the Old Gold now said to have made an offer for one target.

Wolves have made an offer for Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas

Last week, it was reported that Wolves and Southampton are eyeing a move for Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas.

The Serie A club are rumoured to be ready to part ways with the 22-year-old in a bid to generate much-needed profit this summer.

While the Greece international is highly-rated by Lazio as a number two to Ivan Provedel, the club are in desperate need of raising funds.

Now, it’s been reported that Wolves have made an opening offer of €20m (£17m) for the shot-stopper, as per the understanding of Il Messaggero.

The report goes as far as describing the Midlands club’s offer as one that Lazio “will hardly be able to say no to”, despite their understanding of the ‘keeper’s high potential.

It’s an encouraging step for Wolves in the pursuit of Mandas if the report is to be believed, suggesting that O’Neil is on the hunt for a higher-calibre second-choice goalkeeper this summer.

Pep Guardiola wanted Wolves target Mandas at Manchester City

Despite only making nine appearances in Serie A last season for Lazio, Mandas made a great impression in the Italian top flight.

As a result of his positive performances between the sticks, the Greek star has accumulated a lot of interest this summer, with other Premier League clubs said to have eyed the goalkeeper.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb relayed back in May that both Manchester City and Manchester United were eyeing the movement of the Lazio ace.

The report claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side had “recorded” contact earlier in the summer to “express their appreciation” for the 22-year-old’s talent.

It’s clear how highly-rated Mandas is from his short cameo at Lazio in the latter stages of the 2023/24 campaign, hinting at what Wolves could acquire this summer if a deal is to be struck.
