Wolves are still scouring the market to land a replacement for captain Max Kilman and have submitted a £13m offer for one of their ‘quality’ targets.
Wolves have sanctioned two big-money exits this summer as Max Kilman was sold to West Ham for £40 million and Pedro Neto went to Chelsea for around £54 million.
In the final week of the transfer window, replacements are needed for both players as Gary O’Neil aims to add the finishing touches to his squad.
The Wanderers have already shown they have one eye on the future after agreeing to sign 18-year-old Nantes centre-back Bastien Meupiyou however, there’s a clear plan to loan the youngster out once he signs.
O’Neil desperately needs a defensive figure for the present, who can challenge the likes of Yerson Mosquera, Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes for a place in the back line.

Wolves submit £13 million offer for Burnley defender Dara O’Shea
On Monday, it emerged that Wolves were showing an interest in Burnley centre-back Dara O’Shea, who was earmarked as a potential replacement for Kilman.
Most Wolves fans reacted negatively to this news when discovering his asking price of £15 million, with some claiming it would be awful business.
To the dismay of many, though, BBC Sport have now reported that the Old Gold have lodged a £13m bid for the Republic of Ireland international.
The outlet has revealed that O’Shea is ‘eager’ to move to Molineux this summer but the Clarets are holding firm in their £15m valuation as the 25-year-old holds three years left on his current deal.
Time is running out for Wolves to land a centre-back
Supporters will be worried that the time is running out for Wolves to secure a new central defender and some will be concerned that O’Shea isn’t much of an upgrade on their current options, despite being lauded as ‘quality’.
Last season, the biggest mistake Fosun made in the transfer window was leaving the Wanderers short in several positions.
Towards the end of the campaign, the Wolves squad began to drop like flies and O’Neil was forced into playing youngsters, who would have otherwise not been anywhere near the squad.
That was mainly in attacking positions as the likes of Neto, Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan all suffered injuries however, a similar narrative could play out in defence if they’re not careful.
Following Kilman’s departure, O’Neil only has Mosquera, Toti, Dawson and Santi Bueno to choose from and that doesn’t fill many with confidence.
Dawson is approaching the end of his career, Mosquera is inexperienced in the top flight, Toti was shaky on Saturday against Arsenal and the jury is still out for Bueno.
Wolves inarguably need to make a statement signing in that position and currently, supporters aren’t convinced that O’Shea is the man.
