Wolves strike £1m agreement with Championship club to sell midfielder, medical imminent

Wolves are set for a busy end to the January transfer window, and it looks like one player is now set to leave the club.

Fans are hoping to see a few new players come in before the deadline.

Wolves remain in talks to sign Kevin Danso from Lens, with the club keen to bolster their backline.

Wolves are also interested in Ukraine midfielder Volodymyr Brazhko, with Mario Lemina potentially leaving in the coming days

But there could also be some outgoings.

Carlos Forbs is wanted back by Ajax, although that one could be complicated with the manager and their technical director seemingly at odds.

But one player who looks to be closing in on an exit now is Luke Cundle, with John Percy providing an update this morning.

Earlier this month, it was suggested Luke Cundle was the subject of an offer from Millwall.

It was then claimed that Wolves had rejected that offer from Millwall.

But there has now been a breakthrough, with The Telegraph’s John Percy reporting that Wolves and Millwall have agreed a £1 million deal for the player to make a permanent transfer.

He adds that the player is set for a medical later today.

Cundle spent last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, where he was a regular, and previously he’s had spells with Stoke City and Swansea City.

Cundle has made the bench for Wolves a few times this season, but appears now that his time at the club is about to come to an end.

Recently, amid speculation about the player, Wolves fans suggested Cundle should not be let go, given the club’s potential to drop into the Championship next season.

No surprises as Cundle set to leave Wolves

So it looks as though it’s a question of when Cundle completes his move to Millwall now, not if.

The development doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, with Cundle having struggled to properly break through at Wolves.

He’s made seven appearances for the first-team, but his last back came in the 2021/22 season.

Cundle has had a few loan spells, and there was always a chance that he would leave the club permanently this season, given he is now 22 and hasn’t really threatened to become a starter at Wolves.

Hopefully, this move will be good for him. He knows the Championship very well, so will likely be able to hit the ground running fairly quickly.

It remains to be seen if Wolves will have inserted either a buy-back or sell-on clause.
