Wolves stance on Hugo Bueno now emerges amid interest from Leeds United and Celtic

Wolves youngster Hugo Bueno is wanted by Leeds United, Celtic and others – and a report has now shared the club’s stance on the Spaniard.

Bueno struggled for starts last season as a result of the fine form of Rayan Ait-Nouri. He also had some injury problems.

But Ait-Nouri’s renaissance at Molineux was a major reason why he warmed the bench a lot of the time, with Matt Doherty also being preferred by Gary O’Neil on occasion.

As a result, there has been a bit of talk about Bueno’s future this summer.

Apparently, Celtic are keen to sign him, having attempted to land him back in January.

But in recent days Leeds have been linked, as have Dutch club Feyenoord.

A report has now shared Wolves’ stance on the player, with only a month to go in the summer transfer window.

Bueno could perhaps be forgiven for seeking an exit this summer.

At the moment, Ait-Nouri is firmly established under O’Neil to play on the left. We will see how he gets on at left-back as opposed to left wing-back, but his development over the last year or so has been undeniable.

So £10,000-a-week youngster Bueno has work to do if he wants regular minutes at Molineux.

But he recently suggested that he was happy to stay and fight for his place.

And it seems Wolves and O’Neil are also keen for him to stick around. The Athletic have reported this morning that Bueno is not close to leaving Molineux.

Apparently Wolves currently ‘consider him important to their plans for next season’.

Bueno remains a great options for Wolves

It does not appear as though anything is in the offing regarding Bueno leaving the club.

Wolves are bound to hear offers for him, as they would do with any other player. But unless a big money offer comes in then the focus should be on keeping him.

The player sounds keen to fight for his place and that is admirable, and exactly the attitude O’Neil needs from his fringe players.

Bueno remains a solid option for Wolves. He was probably the shining light in the 2022/23 season after making his debut in October 2022 under caretaker manager Steve Davis.

Julen Lopetegui loved him, and Bueno really did nail down his position in the team.

Ait-Nouri has the shirt now so it’ll be a big challenge for him to get back in favour, but Bueno will no doubt graft. The left-back situation is certainly healthy for O’Neil.
