Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence were given a new lease of life at Wolves over pre-season.
As Gary O’Neil prepares for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, the duo have both been used in the club’s pre-season friendlies.
As neither were playing a part in the squad last season, it began speculation on whether the pair had a future at Wolves.
It had long been expected that many of last season’s outcasts would depart either on loan or permanently. Yet, both did well in pre-season, in particular Guedes who impressed David Edwards.
Now, with less than a month left of the window, the future of the pair in Old Gold has become clearer.
Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence both likely to depart Wolves

While anything can happen within the next month, it is still believed that the Portuguese duo will depart.
Speaking on the E&S podcast, Liam Keen insists that they are ‘likely’ to leave with the Rayo Vallecano friendly potentially a big indicator of their long-term future.
He stated: “The chances are that they will both still leave because they have both been burned in the past with experiences with Wolves.
“Both had issues in and around the training group and with managers. Both are characters who are not shy to express what they think which has rubbed some people the wrong way.
“With all those things combined, I’d expect them still to go. Obviously, with Podence’s contract situation in particular I’d expected them both to go.
“The difference is, they have been involved in pre-season; Gary is the type of manager who gets the best out of people, not just players but people and they seem happier under Gary O’Neil.
“I wouldn’t read anything into social media posts such as Daniel Podence lifting a trophy with Olympiacos; Guedes posting pictures of him in Wolves training – I wouldn’t read into either of those. It doesn’t mean that they are definitely going or staying.
“It is still more likely than not that they will leave but we will be able to read more into it with this Rayo Vallecano game and once the season gets underway.
“Once we have got a limited squad for a Premier League game if either or both of these players make it into a squad, that tells you a lot more than pre-season will.
“It is one to hold onto and see how the next few weeks go. They are not going to leave immediately either of them, but they are more likely to go than not.”

Wolves should look to keep both Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence

While it may seem unlikely, the pair could both prove to be vital in the upcoming campaign.
O’Neil proved multiple times last season that he was able to get the best out of many players who had lost their form.
With depth also being a huge factor, Wolves should look to hold onto the pair to strengthen the squad.
Neither would currently demand a big fee. Yet, if they even have a good six months in Old Gold, Wolves could make a profit in January.
