Wolves are reportedly showing interest in Birmingham City’s highly-rated young midfielder Jordan James.
It has proven to be a tough January transfer window so far for Wanderers, with no new players coming through the door just yet.
Fans have been hoping to see one or two new faces, especially a new centre-forward after Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva were both loaned out.
But new players have not been forthcoming, with Gary O’Neil admitting earlier this week that a couple of deals the club were working on are no longer doable.
Despite his comments, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Wolves are showing interest in one of the Championship’s brightest prospects…
Wolves interested in Birmingham City teenager Jordan James

Renowned journalist Romano took to X last night to share some information about Wolves’ interest in James.
He wrote: “Understand Crystal Palace and Wolves are showing interest in Jordan James as potential midfielder target. Birmingham City already rejected a bid from Atalanta earlier this window.”
James is only 19, but has been a part of Birmingham’s first-team since the 2021/22 season.
He made his debut against Bristol City as a 17-year-old, and since then, he has racked up 89 appearances for the Blues.
This term, despite a turbulent campaign for Birmingham as a collective, James has really impressed personally, scoring six goals from midfield.
James is a talent
It will be interesting to see if Wolves are able to do anything regarding a move for James, following the comments of O’Neil this week.
James will be into the final year of his contract in the summer, meaning there could be an opportunity to land him for a lower fee. It was claimed that Atalanta were looking to sign James for around £3 million, which may indicate the kind of money Wolves would need to fork out.
Although Wolves don’t desperately need midfielders right now, James coming in would be exciting.
Wayne Rooney had an ill-fated spell at St. Andrew’s as manager, but said of the talented James back in December (Birmingham Mail): “He’s a very good player and he can play as a six, like he does for Wales, but I think watching him in training, seeing how he can make the box and make really good runs, he’s a good finisher, in my opinion he’s a number eight. As we’ve seen in the last couple of games, he’s done really well from there.”
Perhaps it is worth keeping an eye on in the summer, where a move would surely be more likely.
