Wolves should consider move for Yerry Mina this summer

Wolves are seemingly needing to be shrewd in the transfer market this summer – which means the club should consider a move for Yerry Mina.

Wanderers are said to have concerns over FFP right now and need to sell players.

Ruben Neves has already departed for Wolves, with Al Hilal paying £47 million.

That was a great deal for Wolves. But the club are thought to need a few more to balance the books.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that Nathan Collins could be the next player to go. Brentford are in advanced talks at the moment, with Wolves looking to sell for around £25 million.

If Collins departs, that may mean a new central defender is required.

And maybe Mina – available on a free – should be considered.

Yerry Mina would be a good pick up for Wolves on a free

In recent years, Mina has established himself as a decent Premier League defender who is mostly known for his aggression.

Interestingly, Fabio Silva previously branded Mina as the toughest opponent he had faced in the Premier League. He said of the star: “He was the most annoying one I came up against. He’s Colombian, so I think it’s part of his culture to try to get into your head; play mind games; say things to provoke you. But I’m calm on the pitch and don’t pay attention.”

Mina likes to get into physical battles with strikers. He stands at an intimidating 6ft 5in and is very strong. He loves the rough and tumble, and is able to dominate aerially due to his height.

Potentially, he could be Wolves’ new Willy Boly. The Ivorian was also fantastic in the air and was always quite physical.

Could Wolves make a move for Yerry Mina this summer?

Currently Mina is being linked with a move to Fulham.

The Cottagers see the South American as someone who could bolster their defence.

But Fabrizio Romano reports that nothing is agreed yet, and that the race is open. Time could be of the essence for Wolves though, because Besiktas, RC Lens, Granada and Bologna are all keen.

Wolves should look at getting involved. Interestingly, Mina was actually linked with a move to Wolves back in 2018 (Sky Sports). After the club’s promotion from the Championship, he was apparently on their radar, before he ultimately made his move to Everton

Mina knows the Premier League and is suited to the physicality of English football.

He’s also a threat from set-pieces, as Wolves found out in their final home game of 2022/23 when he equalised right at the death. His record of nine goals in 99 games for Everton is respectable.

The one drawback with him is that his injury record isn’t the best. 99 games in five seasons is not brilliant. Again, this makes him a bit like Boly.

But taking him on a free doesn’t seem like the worst move, especially given the predicament Wolves are in right now.
