Wolves share when they actually first scouted Nasser Djiga as defender completes Molineux transfer

Wolves enjoyed a productive transfer deadline day in the end, with Nasser Dijga and Marshall Munetsi both moving to Molineux.

Wolves signed Emmanuel Agbadou earlier in the window.

But there was then a worrying lack of activity for a few weeks, with results poor.

Wolves sprung into life towards the end of the window, and after the win over Aston Villa it looked as though the club were about to land their second centre-back.

But Tottenham Hotspur hijacked Kevin Danso’s move to Wolves, forcing Wanderers officials to turn to alternatives.

Wolves then signed Nasser Djiga on transfer deadline day, and the club have now revealed when they actually first spotted the player.

It will not come as too much of a surprise to learn that Wolves actually had Djiga – who cost around £10 million – on their radar for quite some time before swooping when they did.

Djiga is now 22 years of age, but Wolves first caught wind of him when he was still a teenager.

Wolves say via their scouting report: “It was during Djiga’s initial loan to Nimes in the August of 2022 when Wolves’ recruitment team first started watching and reporting on the defender.

“The interest in the 22-year-old progressed following his time in Belgrade, which saw Djiga claim silverware for his performances, as alongside the league title, he also picked up the club’s best young player award.”

Wolves go on to say that Djiga ‘produced good technical and physical data’ in both the Serbian league and Champions League.

Matt Hobbs has called Djiga a ‘quick’ and ‘aggressive’ defender, and Wolves fans will hope he can have a similar impact to that of Agbadou.

Nasser Djiga style of play

It will be interesting to watch Djiga in action for Wolves and it remains to be seen if he can get any minutes in this weekend’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Djiga seems like he could be a good fit for the English game based on what Wolves have said in their scouting report.

According to the club, he ‘enjoys defending from the front foot, while also possessing the pace to get back too’.

It’s also been suggested Djiga sometimes celebrates when he makes a tackle, which is a trait that will likely endear him to the Molineux faithful pretty quickly.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, Djiga is naturally strong in the air, so on the face of it Wolves have a really promising player on their hands.
