Wolves set to wave goodbye to player who has already sent Fosun a transfer warning this summer

As one door opens for Wolves, another looks set to close as a player who previously warned Fosun against inactivity in the window is now close to a move away.

Wolves have made great progress with Jackson Tchatchoua in the last 48 hours, with the right-back booked in for a medical ahead of a switch to the Premier League.

But as that new signing gets finalised, another Wolves squad player is edging closer to the door.

Everton close to an agreement for Wolves goalkeeper Tom King

Tom King joined Wolves on a free in 2023. As a reserve goalkeeper, he hasn’t made a competitive senior appearance for the side, although Pereira values King’s leadership in the dressing room.

The Athletic have reported that Everton are progressing on a deal for the Englishman, hoping to add depth between the posts.

Wolves are unlikely to receive a windfall of cash with this sale, but it’s one that makes sense to do with a 30-year-old who isn’t challenging for minutes.

King was vocal about Wolves’ need for signings earlier in the summer, but it’s impossible to say whether that had any bearing on this move.

Wolves may need another goalkeeper before deadline day

While King was Wolves’ fourth-choice keeper, his departure could leave a gap in the squad if second-choice Sam Johnstone does leave after all.

Just a couple of weeks ago, it looked like Johnstone was off to Burnley, but that plan was scuppered when the newly promoted side signed Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka. Sunderland also have addressed their vacancy in net, leaving Johnstone’s future unclear.

His reasons for wanting a move are understandable, as he feels ready to be number one choice for a team.

If Johnstone’s wishes are granted, and King does indeed move to Everton, Wolves will need to find a third-choice keeper behind Jose Sa and Daniel Bentley, to insure against a crisis in that position.
