Wolves set to sign exciting gem for £300k with medical booked amid Man City and Chelsea links

Wolves are in for a busy few days in the transfer window, and fans are desperate to see some more new faces.

After starting the summer positively, Wolves have been inactive for nearly two months and some supporters are growing worried.

It’s two defeats from the first two games, and Gary O’Neil called for reinforcements after the 6-2 defeat to Chelsea.

Bastien Meupiyou is set to complete a move from Nantes, but the club are also expected to sign a more experienced defender on top. Another wide forward could also be coming in.

Meupiyou will not be the only talented young player to arrive at Molineux in the coming days, with the club agreeing a deal to sign St Mirren starlet Ethan Sutherland.

Wolves had been in talks to sign Ethan Sutherland from Scottish side St Mirren and have been hopeful of completing a move before Friday’s deadline.

It now looks as though this will happen. Journalist Anthony Joseph has reported on X that Wolves have now reached an agreement to sign Sutherland.

Wolves are set to pay around £300,000, and the player is travelling to England today for his Wolves medical and to finalise the move.

The Daily Record have further reported that St Mirren have negotiated a 20% sell-on clause. The youngster is expected to sign a three-year deal with Wolves.

Sutherland – who can play as a winger or a full-back – joined St Mirren after rising through the ranks at Rangers. He has made only a handful of appearances for the Buddies’ first-team, and it was his loan spell at Alloa Athletic where he really impressed.

Wolves must follow up with experienced players

So Wolves are set to land two exciting players for the future in Meupiyou and Sutherland in the coming days, which is positive.

But the club simply must ensure that they land a couple of experienced players too – especially for the defence, which was looked all at sea in the first two games.

Sutherland – described as a ‘real prospect’ last season by manager Stephen Robinson – will have seen how young players at Wolves have been given decent opportunities in recent times.

There have been a string of academy players making their first-team debuts, and it is clear that if you are good enough at Molineux you are old enough.

Hopefully, Sutherland can settle in nice and quickly at Wolves and maybe even catch O’Neil’s eye at some point this season.
