Wolves set to rekindle interest in renowned international to replace Max Kilman

Wolves have set their sights on a former transfer target to replace outgoing captain Max Kilman.

Since the turn of June, Wolves have not shown any signs of slowing down in the transfer market. Gary O’Neil’s side has already welcomed three new faces to Molineux

However, departures are also prominent. Last week, Wolves said goodbye to their captain Kilman, who left for West Ham for £40 million

Not only will this have undoubtedly left a hole within the dressing room but also at the back.

Wolves have reportedly shortlisted four defenders who could replace Kilman this summer. However, one new face has reportedly joined the fold who has been previously linked to a move to Molineux.

One man who has continuously been linked to Wolves is Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson. The centre-back was first linked with a move to England back in 2022 and now these rumours have sprung up yet again.

Turkish outlet Yeni Safak has claimed that Wolves have now rekindled their interest in Nelsson. The Danish international missed the 2024 Euros through injury but has now returned to training ahead of the new season.

Nelsson has been at Galatasaray since 2021 and has amassed over 120 appearances for the club in that time.

This has resulted in two league titles and a cup in his three seasons at the club. In the last campaign, Nelsson helped oversee a 102-point campaign, where Galatasaray only lost two league games.

The 25-year-old is well-loved at his club. Back in 2022, Galatasaray board member Resit Omer Kukner branded him a “Danish lion”, while praising him for his “attitude on and off the pitch”.

After years of hunting Nelsson, this summer could be the perfect time to acquire the centre-back.

Wolves are currently in a troubling situation in this position. Craig Dawson is not getting any younger while Yerson Mosquera, Santiago Bueno and Toti Gomes have not had regular experience at the top.

While Nelsson also lacks experience in the top five leagues, he has featured for Denmark 12 times and is a regular in Europe, making nine appearances in the Champions League last season.

By adding this knowledge to the backline it could help improve multiple players in Wolves’ defence while also reducing its average age.
