Wolves are now set to earn additional money from Max Kilman’s transfer to West Ham after a clause was altered in negotiations.
Wolves will have to go into the 2024/25 campaign without their current captain. Kilman is set to join West Ham for £40 million to become the club’s first major departure this summer.
The defender had been a crucial player for Wolves over the last two seasons and played every Premier League game in the previous campaign.
Now, the transfer looks set to be completed over the coming days with Kilman becoming one of Wolves’ most expensive departures.
Despite the £40 million bid, not all of the money was set to go to Wolves. Non-league Maidenhead have a sell-on clause for Kilman after his £40,000 transfer to the club in 2018. However, this has now been altered.
Wolves and Maidenhead agree to change Max Kilman’s sell-on clause

One of the biggest winners of the transfer is Maidenhead. The Berkshire club have been in the National League since the 2017/18 season but are now set to be rich beyond their wildest dreams.
The sell-on clause inserted into Kilman’s transfer was well known and was believed to be 20%. This would have seen Maidenhead net an incredible £8 million from the deal.
However, Liam Keen has now reported that the club and Wolves have agreed to lower the clause to 10% to ‘get the deal done’.
Therefore, this will see Maidenhead only net £4 million from the transfer. However, this is still an incredible amount and could easily transform them into a league side in the coming years.

The extra £4 million could go a long way for Wolves this transfer window

While it may not seem a lot, the addition of an extra £4 million could prove to be a lot for Wolves in this transfer market.
It had already been established by Gary O’Neil that Wolves wanted to be self-sufficient, therefore, little investment in the team is likely to come from Fosun’s pockets.
Due to this, every penny counts. It is clear that despite three signings already, more additions are needed.
On top of Kilman’s replacement, another winger is needed and arguably another back-up striker.
If the extra £4 million is enough to get another addition across the line then it may have been a smart move by the club to protect its interests.
