Wolves set to miss out on winger target, he’s making £17m move to French giants

Wolves fans are expecting at least a couple more new signings between now and the end of the transfer window, but one winger who has recently been linked with a switch to Molineux will not be coming.

Gary O’Neil is looking to bolster his squad before next Friday’s deadline.

Three new faces have come in this summer, but all arrived very early and fans are slightly concerned about the lack of activity in recent weeks.

Many were left even more worried when a report suggested this week that Wolves may only have around £20 million to spend before sales.

Matt Hobbs will no doubt be hard at work for the next nine days, but it looks like one player Wolves have reportedly shown interest in will not be making a move to Molineux.

Following the recent sale of Pedro Neto, many are wondering if the club will swoop for another wide player.

Wanderers have brought in Rodrigo Gomes, and the early signs with him are good. But Wolves might need some extra cover if Daniel Podence and Goncalo Guedes and Chiquinho all leave.

One player Wolves have reportedly shown interest in this summer is Norwich City youngster Jonathan Rowe, who enjoyed a fine 2023/24 campaign.

Rowe scored 12 goals in the Championship in 32 appearances. He also got a couple of assists.

He is a player Wolves were linked with back in May, and there have also been claims of interest from Wolves in 2023.

But if Wolves were hoping to do a late deal to get Rowe in, then they can now forget about it now.

The game’s top journalist Fabrizio Romano has now delivered his famous catchphrase – and Rowe is heading to Marseille.

He said this afternoon: “Olympique Marseille agree deal to sign Jonathan Rowe from Norwich, here we go! Agreement in place for £14m fee plus add-ons with medical tests already booked. There will be also sell-on clause as @JPercyTelegraph reported.”

According to John Percy, the deal could reach £17 million with the add-ons.

Time will tell if Wolves will regret not moving for Rowe

The fact Marseille have spent an initial £14 million on Rowe, with the deal likely costing £17 million eventually, perhaps just shows how highly they rate him.

Rowe is an exciting talent, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in Ligue 1.

Wolves potentially needed another forward and he might have made for a pretty exciting addition with his pace and eye for goal. But it was suggested recently that Wanderers were no longer in the running for the player, which disappointed some fans.

Hopefully, he doesn’t become a player Wolves have regrets over.
