Wolves set to miss out on Premier League title winner, he’s set for medical at British giants

A player Wolves were linked with earlier this month is now all set to join another club, with his medical to take place in the next 24 hours.

Gary O’Neil has brought in three new faces so far – Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen. Tommy Doyle also made his loan move permanent.

It has been a positive summer so far, and fans are hoping that the three newbies will be able to settle in as quickly as possible so they can hit the ground running.

It is expected that Wolves will make a few more additions before the summer is out.

One position that has been speculated about is the goalkeeper, and in recent days, Dan Bentley has become the subject of interest from Arsenal.

Wolves rejected a £50,000 bid for Bentley, but it’s not out the question he could go.

But one man who won’t be replacing him is Kasper Schmeichel.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Wolves were considering a swoop for Schmeichel, who has been a free-agent since leaving Anderlecht earlier this summer after just one season.

The former Premier League title winner with Leicester City was said to have been keen on a return to the Premier League.

But Schmeichel is actually now all set to complete a move to Scottish giants Celtic.

Tipsbladet have reported that Schmeichel will have his medical in Italy, before flying out to the US on Thursday for their pre-season training camp.

There was perhaps always a strong possibility of Schmeichel making a move to Celtic. The Hoops are managed by Brendan Rodgers, who Schmeichel worked with at Leicester.

Schmeichel would have been a good Bentley replacement

So Schmeichel is primed for a stint in Scotland, and Wolves will now have to look at alternative options in case Bentley leaves.

It has gone a bit quiet on him in recent days after the Arsenal speculation.

But the Gunners may well come back with a bigger bid, so Wolves do need to be looking at potential replacements.

Schmeichel would have actually been a great option for Wolves as a number two. The 37-year-old has lots of Premier League experience and is known to be a leader, having worn the captain’s armband at Leicester and Denmark.

He is not as good as Jose Sa, but would have provided him with a strong push which is exactly what you want from a number two. Ultimately though, Schmeichel is probably going to get regular game time at Celtic and can’t be blamed for making that move.
