Wolves set to miss out on Dara O’Shea to Premier League rivals as major issue emerges

Wolves now look set to miss out on Burnley centre-back Dara O’Shea as a concerning issue emerges.

Wolves placed Dara O’Shea on their shortlist of targets to replace Max Kilman, who joined West Ham in a £40 million deal this summer.

The Wanderers first showed an interest in the Republic of Ireland international on Monday, with a £13 million bid launched on Friday.

Burnley value their star defender at £15 million and therefore, weren’t willing to accept Wolves bid, despite O’Shea making it clear he wants a move to Molineux.

Now, after being unprepared to pay the extra £2 million, it appears Gary O’Neil could miss out on another defensive target this summer.

Wolves look set to miss out on Dara O’Shea to Premier League new boys Ipswich Town

A promising start to the summer transfer window, which saw Wolves sign Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen, is now unravelling into a nightmare.

As it stands, the Old Gold are beginning this campaign weaker than they ended the last after selling captain Kilman and star winger Pedro Neto to Chelsea.

With Wolves operating on a tight budget this summer, it isn’t a certainty that either Kilman or Neto will be replaced in the final week of the window, which will be a huge concern.

But, in their attempts to land a new centre-back in O’Shea, the Wanderers now look set to lose out on their ‘fantastic’ target to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Ipswich are in the ‘box seat’ to sign the ‘fantastic’ O’Shea as Wolves were unwilling to pay the extra £2 million to trigger the Clarets asking price.

For the frustrated supporters who are forced to watch on in anguish, this is just the latest in a long list of reasons to be annoyed at Fosun.

Wolves must have another defensive target lined up

Supporters aren’t annoyed that Wolves are set to miss out on O’Shea, as many were unhappy with the links in the first place however, they are angry that a newly-promoted side are willing to pay more than Gary O’Neil’s side.

That is the part that will irk people the most, as it just shows how little power the Wanderers currently have in the transfer window.

Regardless of whether they pay millions or look for a bargain replacement, signing a new centre-back is arguably more imperative than a replacement for Neto.

Wolves only have Craig Dawson, Yerson Moquera, Toti Gomes and Santi Bueno as defensive options, which doesn’t fill many with confidence.

Indeed, a new centre-back should be top of O’Neil’s shopping list ahead of next Friday’s deadline, with a successor to Neto also sought after.
