Wolves set to battle Premier League rival for 25-year-old’s signature in January

Wolves are in the hunt to sign Bright Osayi-Samuel, but are currently facing strong competition from Crystal Palace.

The January transfer window is about to open and it will be a chance for Gary O’Neil to strengthen his squad, in what will be his first full window.

It’s been reported that O’Neil will prioritise a new striker, and there has also been talk of another wide forward coming in to provide some depth.

It’s been suggested that Wolves may only make a couple of additions, but it is now being claimed that Wanderers have an interest in right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel…

According to TEAMtalk, Wolves have been showing interest in Bright Osayi-Samuel, who is currently plying his trade over in Turkey with Fenerbahce.

He has been with them since January 2021, joining from QPR.

The Nigeria international has enjoyed regular game time with the club since his move, already making 123 appearances to date.

TEAMtalk report that there is interest in the player, but Crystal Palace apparently have a strong desire to bring him back to English football.

Wolves are also mentioned as being keen, as are Leeds United, with the player having a contract with Fenerbahce until the summer of 2025.

Osayi-Samuel’s move to Fenerbahce in January 2021 raised some eyebrows at the time, because he was a player a lot of English clubs had interest in. According to The Athletic, he had plenty of options in the Championship and also the Premier League.

He often impressed at Loftus Road, with former manager Mark Warburton hailing him as ‘outstanding’ after a 6-1 win over Cardiff City in January 2020.

A move for Osayi-Samuel feels unlikely

It would be a real surprise to see Wolves try and sign Osayi-Samuel next month, especially with Palace seemingly the favourites right now.

At the moment, there are other positions that Wolves need to look at before right-back.

Nelson Semedo has by and large enjoyed a pretty good campaign, and it’s clear Gary O’Neil rates him highly having started him in every single Premier League game so far.

But perhaps it cannot be ruled out entirely, because Matt Doherty hasn’t enjoyed the best of starts since returning to the club.

There is also the situation with Jonny Castro Otto. Wolves look as though they will try and sell the player in January, after banishing him from the first-team following a training ground incident.
