Wolves set for cash injection if ex-defender makes transfer to Europa Conference League club

Wolves will be set for an injection of cash if one of their former players makes a proposed switch to a Europa Conference League side.

The transfer window shut on Monday as Wolves announced the arrivals of two new signings, with Nasser Djiga transferring from Red Star Belgrade and Marshall Munetsi joining from Reims.

An underwhelming window as a whole was transformed into a rather productive one as Vitor Pereira improved two areas of his first-team squad – centre-back and central midfield.

The Portuguese boss also received a cash injection once the window slammed shut, with Mario Lemina sealing a £2.5 million transfer to Galatasaray on Wednesday.

Lemina’s exit was a long time coming after the Gabonese star burned bridges with the fans. Interestingly, this isn’t the only cash injection they could receive this month.

Wolves set to receive £1 million if Ruben Vinagre completes Legia Warsaw transfer

According to A Bola, Wolves are set to receive £1 million from Sporting Lisbon if left-back Ruben Vinagre completes a £2 million transfer to Polish side Legia Warsaw.

Vinagre spent four years at Molineux from 2018 to 2022 before completing an £8.5 million move to the Portuguese giants.

As Wolves placed a 50% sell-on clause in his contract, the Premier League side are entitled to half of what he gets sold for, therefore pocketing £1 million if he joins Legia permanently.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a productive season on loan at the Europa Conference League side, amassing nine assists in 28 matches in all competitions.

Such promising form has been a long time coming for the Portuguese star, who largely struggled in previous loan spells at Everton, Hull City and Serie A side Hellas Verona.

What Nuno Espirito Santo once said about Vinagre

Vinagre was part of the Wolves side that won the Championship title in 2018 and then qualified on back-to-back occasions for the Europa League.

The flying full-back only featured nine times in the 2017/18 campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo, although his game time increased in the following campaign.

Vinagre amassed 21 appearances in all competitions and Nuno had high hopes for the then-teenager, explaining how much he’d improved after winning the European Championship with Portugal’s under-19 side.

“He’s ready to go, he’s matured,” Nuno said via TNT Sport in November 2018. “Last season he had his chance, at the beginning of this season he wasn’t with us as he was becoming a European champion.

“He’s growing, he’s getting better. I’m totally confident that the answer’s going to be good.

“It’s more than the title, it’s the high level of competition he was involved in. They won the competition and he improved a lot.”

Of course, Vinagre never matured into his full potential at Wolves but he’s currently showcasing his talent at Legia Warsaw.
