Wolves see bid for one of Europe’s brightest prospects knocked back

Wolves are seeking fresh blood in this transfer market and have now seen a bid rejected for Besiktas youngster Semih Kılıçsoy.

Gary O’Neil is known to want a new striker this month and the club are currently weighing up several options.

The Old Gold don’t have much money to spend and face an issue on their hands to buy someone who can hit the ground running.

Che Adams is someone who has been mentioned a few times again recently after the club tried to sign the Southampton striker in the summer.

Hugo Ekitike is also a reported target and he’s someone the club has a long-standing interest in. The French youngster is expected to depart the Parc des Princes after rarely featuring this term.

Despite this, there has only been one forward that Wolves have launched a bid for, and it’s not someone supporters will recognise.

Wolves have bid rejected for Besiktas youngster Semih Kılıçsoy

Turkish outlet Haberturk have reported that Wolves bid for the 18-year-old has been knocked back as Besiktas want to hold onto one of their biggest prospects.

It is claimed that Kılıçsoy continues to ‘make a name for himself’ having scored a brace and assisted once in an away victory over Çaykur Rizespor.

With four goals in his last three matches, the talented teenager is pushing for a spot in Turkey’s EURO 2024 squad – and if he continues his fine form – there will be no one backing against him achieving that.

Given Besiktas have no intention of selling their rising star in this window and the fact he recently signed a new contract till 2028, it will be difficult for O’Neil to prise him away from his homeland.

Of course, the prospect of playing Premier League football is a mouthwatering one for most youngsters, but he isn’t going to risk damaging his chances of making the national team squad when he’s in the form of his life in Turkey.

Why do Wolves want Semih?

Wolves can profit, quite literally, by moving to a sustainable business model that can see them buy talent for cheap and sell them on for a sizeable fee in the future.

Semih ticks that box. He’s young, hungry and already showing he can score goals in a difficult league despite his tender age.

The Turkish talent is certainly worth monitoring in the foreseeable future. He’s exploded into life this season and if he continues to impress, there will be a lot more of Europe’s prying hands looking to steal him from Besiktas.

That said, any deal for him looks difficult to complete in the winter, but they should keep him on the shortlist ahead of summer.
